Global Ocean Studies from CALIOP/CALIPSO by Removing Polarization Crosstalk Effects

چکیده
Recent studies indicate that the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) aboard and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) satellite provides valuable information about ocean phytoplankton distributions. CALIOP’s attenuated backscatter coefficients, measured at 532 nm in receiver channels oriented parallel perpendicular to laser’s linear polarization plane, are significantly improved Version 4 data product. However, due non-ideal instrument effects, a small fraction of backscattered optical power polarized reference plane is misdirected into channel, vice versa. This effect, known as crosstalk, typically causes signal be higher than its true value lower value. Therefore, properties derived directly from signals will biased if crosstalk effect not taken account. paper presents methods can used estimate CALIOP effects on-orbit measurements. The global depolarization ratios calculated both before after removing compared. Using crosstalk-corrected highly recommended for all subsurface studies.

Removing the North Pacific halocline: Effects on global climate, ocean circulation and the carbon cycle
A well-pronounced halocline is a key feature of today’s subarctic North Pacific. There is indirect paleoevidences from the last glacial termination as well as from the early and middle Pliocene that this halocline has not always been there. To study the effects of North Pacific salinity on global climate, ocean circulation and the marine carbon cycle, we perform idealized experiments using an E...
متن کاملHomodyne Crosstalk Optimization in Cascaded OADMs by Polarization Control
Homodyne crosstalk causes severe system performance degradation in optical networks by beating with the desired signal. This is more critical in ring and bus networks when consecutive nodes lead to a cumulative homodyne crosstalk. In this paper we present a polarization control technique to reduce the beating and therefore improve the network performance.
متن کاملRemoving Weather Effects from Monochrome Images
Images of outdoor scenes captured in bad weather suffer from poor contrast. Under bad weather conditions, the light reaching a camera is severely scattered by the atmosphere. The resulting decay in contrast varies across the scene and is exponential in the depths of scene points. Therefore, traditional space invariant image processing techniques are not sufficient to remove weather effects from...
متن کاملNetwork Crosstalk Dynamically Changes during Neutrophil Polarization
How complex signaling networks shape highly coordinated, multistep cellular responses is poorly understood. Here, we made use of a network-perturbation approach to investigate causal influences, or "crosstalk," among signaling modules involved in the cytoskeletal response of neutrophils to chemoattractant. We quantified the intensity and polarity of cytoskeletal marker proteins over time to cha...
متن کاملSubsurface Ocean Signals from an Orbiting Polarization Lidar
Detection of subsurface returns from the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) on the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) satellite were demonstrated. Despite the coarse range resolution of this aerosol lidar, evidence of subsurface scattering was observed as a delay and broadening of the cross-polarized signal relative to the co-polar...
